KOTA KINABALU: Firemen had to be called in to rescue a five-year-old boy who fell into a manhole while at school in the east coast Lahad Datu district on Wednesday (July 20).

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said they received a call at 8.26am.

“We rushed a team over after being told the boy had fallen into a 5m-deep manhole,” he said when contacted.

“However, passers-by had already pulled the boy to safety when we reached the primary school,” he added.

Other than vomiting, Misran said the boy otherwise escaped unhurt from the incident.

The boy was treated on site by the department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) personnel before being sent to the district hospital for further checks, he added.
