Talk of no-confidence vote just political 'temasya', says Melaka CM

MELAKA: The Melaka Chief Minister describes talk of a no-confidence vote against him as mere political "temasya (show)".

Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali (pic) said the speculation was created to destabilise the current administration which was stable.

"There were some who seem not happy to see a stable state government and deliberately spread the rumour.

"Even if there is a motion, I am okay and not afraid," he said when interviewed here Thursday (July 14).

Sulaiman said he was baffled on why the speculation has resurfaced when he had not gotten a hint on any move to oust him.

"I don’t know where (these) things came from and I don’t like to delve into this issue," he said.

The Melaka legislative assembly proceeding will be held from July 25 to July 27.

Earlier this month, speculation emerged that Melaka Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh supposedly had received blessings from a national party leader to table a motion of no-confidence against Sulaiman during the state assembly.

However, Ab Rauf has come out openly to rubbish the speculation on July 8.

Sulaiman had survived two attempts to oust him since last year but his administration collapsed on Oct 4, 2021, after four assemblymen withdrew their support for the then Barisan Nasional/ Perikatan Nasional-led state government.

This led to a state election being held in December 2021 where Barisan Nasional secured a thumping victory and Sulaiman was sworn-in as the chief minister once again.
