Onn Hafiz should wear slippers instead of shoes, quips TMJ

JOHOR BARU: Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi Mentri Besar should ignore the criticism over his expensive designer shoes and focus on carrying out his duties.

Tunku Ismail also quipped that Onn Hafiz should just wear slippers instead.

"I was just thinking yesterday of giving watches to you and some government officers. Even this kind of thing can become an issue," he tweeted on Tuesday (July 12).

On Monday (July 11), a person put up a picture of the shoes and poked fun at Onn Hafiz for being able to afford expensive shoes within three months of being appointed to the job as Mentri Besar.

Also tagged were various officials in the post, including Tunku Ismail.

On Facebook, Onn Hafiz later said that the shoes were a gift from Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, saying the Johor Ruler had given out gifts before to state executive council members and civil servants to motivate them to do their best for the rakyat.

"Such baseless accusations and attacks should be stopped immediately," he said.
