Cops seize drugs worth RM1mil in two raids

KUALA LUMPUR: Police here seized drugs worth over RM1mil and arrested four men when a syndicate run by underworld gangs was busted in several raids earlier this week.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the first raid was conducted on Tuesday (July 5) at the parking lot of a condominium in Jalan Bukit Segambut at about 6.40pm where a 26-year-old man was arrested.

"We seized 3,000 ecstasy pills and RM500 cash from the suspect's car. He also tested positive for ganja," he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Thursday (July 7).

He added that the investigation led the police to a shopping mall at Jalan Dutamas, where a 27-year-old man was detained a few hours later.

"We seized 10.14kg of ganja from the suspect's car," he added.

Comm Azmi said that the last raid was conducted at a condominium in Ampang at about 1am on Wednesday (July 6)

"We arrested two men aged 29 and 31. We also seized 142.02kg of ganja, 15.12kg of syabu, 785g of heroin base and a revolver with nine bullets," he said.

Comm Azmi the drugs seized from all three raids were worth RM1.06mil.

"The drugs could have been supplied to 300,000 drug users. We believe the syndicate has been active for about five months," he said.

Comm Azmi then said that the syndicate chose luxury condominiums to store the drugs to avoid detection

"The suspects have prior criminal records, with one being wanted for a murder case. We believe the syndicate not only trafficked drugs but are also involved in gangsterism," he said.

Comm Azmi said that all suspects have been remanded until July 12, adding that firearms have been turning up at more drug busts recently,

"Five pistols have been seized so far this year and we are committed in curbing the drug menace," he said.

He urged the public to assist the police by relaying pertinent information on any crime, especially drug related ones.

"Cooperation from the public is essential in our war against the drug menace," he said.
