KOTA TINGGI: An unemployed man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here for murdering his girlfriend of two months.
Muhamad Safuan Ridzuan, 32, was accused of murder with the intention to cause death towards victim Nik Azizah Nik Ma at Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang near Kampung Lipat Kajang here at around 10pm on June 1.
Clad in orange lock-up attire, the accused said he understood the charge after it was read to him by the court interpreter on Monday (July 4) morning.
No plea was recorded.
It was learnt that the accused got to know the 35-year-old victim through an online chatting app and got together for about two months before committing the act.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence.
Muhamad Safuan was separately charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1953 (Act 234) for taking methamphetamine at around 1.25pm on June 23.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Rashidah Baharom set Aug 1 for the submission of documents for both cases.
