Woman and daughter killed in house fire


KUALA LUMPUR: A mother and daughter died in a three-storey bungalow which caught fire in Taman Gembira here.

The woman’s husband and son managed to escape from the burning house.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said the deceased were aged 62 and 31.

“The remains have been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem,” he said.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Musa Abdullah said the incident occurred at 6.22am yesterday in Jalan Sekutu 4, Taman Gembira.

“We received a distress call and dispatched fire engines, emergency medical rescue services vehicles and a water tanker from the Seputeh, Pantai, Sri Petaling and Hang Tuah fire stations along with 35 firemen. The fire was brought under control by 6.54am and put out completely at 7.12am,” he said.

He added that the fire partially destroyed the bungalow, and added that the fire investigation unit was at the scene to ascertain the cause of the fire.
