Covid-19 Watch: 2,003 new cases bring total infections to 4,556,664


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,003 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (June 26), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,556,664 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 2,000 of Sunday's new infections were locally transmitted while there were three imported cases.

It also said there were 1,861 recoveries on Sunday, which brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,492,767 since the pandemic began.

The portal reported that there were 28,151 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia on Sunday, with 27,025 individuals, or 96.0%, observing home quarantine while 13 are being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.

Some 1,082 individuals, or 3.8% of active infections have been warded in hospital while 31 people are being treated in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.

Of Sunday's ICU cases, 19 require ventilator support while 12 are unventilated.

Malaysia's ICU utilisation rate now stands at 61.5% overall, with 7.1% being used for Covid-19 patients.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there was one death due to Covid-19 in Penang.

This brings the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 to 35,746 since the pandemic began.
