KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah capital will play host to three beauty pageants – Miss World Malaysia, Miss Grand Malaysia and Miss Supranational Malaysia – this August.
The pageants are scheduled to be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) as part of the inaugural HyperLive Festival Malaysia on Aug 27 and 28.
It is supported by the state Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, Sabah Tourism Board, Kota Kinabalu City Hall and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), the organiser in a statement on Wednesday (June 15).
The festival is part of the Kota Kinabalu Vibrant City initiatives for the year, said Eric Goh, director of main organiser Fantastic Golden.
“We believe that our events will attract (a) massive (following) in the region and bring about positive impact to promote Sabah as an attractive tourist destination,” he added.
Goh said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has been invited to attend the festival's gala dinner as its guest of honour.
The beauty pageants will be held on the first day of the festival.
Their national director Dr Sean Wong said they were intended to be world-class events that would promote Sabah as a destination while providing exposure to outstanding talents from around the country.
"We have (invited) international beauty queens, Miss World 2021 Karolina Bielawska and Miss Grand International 2021 Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, to participate in our charity drives and attend the festival.
"We hope their presence can motivate and inspire more youths to create positive change in our society,” said Wong.
Among the highlights on the festival's second day will be taichi and karate exhibitions aimed at promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing.
