JOHOR BARU: The Opposition has thrown its support behind the Johor government's decision to review its weekend rest days of Friday and Saturday.
Reverting to a Saturday-Sunday weekend would be beneficial to families as well as the economy, said state Opposition chief Liew Chin Tong.

The Perling assemblyman said this would eliminate the difference in rest days between the government and private sector.
“The change will improve and add value to the lives of Johoreans who will then be able to spend more time with their families.
“This will also increase productivity and efficiency in terms of work,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 15), adding that the move would also have a positive impact on the state's economic recovery.
Johor's Pakatan Harapan and Malaysia United Democratic Alliance (Muda) assemblymen hoped their support for the move would help the state government create a healthy economic ecosystem, especially to attract more investors, he added.
On Tuesday (June 14), Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state was looking at the possibility of reviewing its rest days after listening to feedback from the people about the difference in rest days between the government and private bodies.
He said a solution to the matter could be announced soon.
In 2014, the state’s rest days were changed to Friday and Saturday from Saturday and Sunday.
Aside from Johor, states such as Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu also observe rest days on Fridays and Saturdays.
