Covid-19: Daily cases dip below 2,000 mark with 1,922 new infections


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 1,922 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday (June 14), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,530,312 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,919 of Tuesday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while there were three imported infections.

The portal also reported that 1,564 individuals recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,471,631 since the pandemic began.

There are currently 22,961 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 21,921 individuals, or 95.5%, observing home quarantine and 16, or 0.1%, being treated at Quarantine and Treatment Centres throughout the country.

Some 992 Covid-19 cases, or 4.3%, have been hospitalised and 32 patients, or 0.2% of active cases, are being treated in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, with 18 requiring ventilator support.

The CovidNow portal also reported that the overall ICU utilisation rate in Malaysia now stands at 62.2% while the usage rate for Covid-19 patients is 7.3%.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were four deaths due to Covid-19 on Tuesday, including one classified as brought-in-dead.

One Covid-19 death each was reported in Selangor, Perlis, Johor and Melaka.

This brings the total number of fatalities in the country due to Covid-19 to 35,720 since the pandemic began.
