Boyfriend of murder victim quizzed by cops

IPOH: The boyfriend of a 21-year-old woman, believed to be a murder victim and whose burnt body was found along a riverbank in Kuala Kangsar, has been questioned by the police.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the police had called in the 20-year-old boyfriend on Wednesday (June 1) evening to assist in investigations.

“We don’t know yet if he is a suspect or otherwise, as we are still in the process of investigating.

“More specific details will be shared in due time, once the post-mortem results are out, and the victim officially identified,” he told reporters after some 96 police officers and personnel from the state received recognition from the Rotary International District 3300 on Thursday (June 2).

The recognition was for their dedication as frontliners during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash said so far no arrests have been made, as they are waiting for the postmortem results to be released today.

“‘We need to get the cause of death, to get the DNA sample of the deceased's father for matching, as well as her dental samples to be matched with records at a dental clinic that she had sought treatment before.

“There is a lot of speculation going around, including rumours of the victim being pregnant.

“Only the post-mortem results will answer all the questions, so we need to be patient and let the experts carry out their duty,” he added.

He said the age of the boyfriend, the victim’s occupation, and what happened would be answered in due time.

On June 1, Comm Mior Faridalathrash had said that a 19-year-old youth had come forward to identify the burnt body of his 21-year-old sister who had gone missing since Tuesday (May 31).

He said the brother identified the sister based on her slippers, hair clip and a nose stud.

He said the body was found at 3pm on the riverbank near Kampung Talang Hulu on Tuesday.
