PM should consult Barisan component parties on GE15 date, says MCA

KUALA LUMPUR: To ensure an overwhelming victory for Barisan Nasional, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob should consult the views of other component parties on when the 15th general election should be called, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said it was Ismail Sabri’s prerogative to decide on the dates of GE15, along with Umno’s top five - president, deputy president and three vice presidents.

“But, I’m appealing to the Prime Minister to discuss this together with component parties.

“Not just Umno should win, but MCA, MIC and PBRS should win together for Barisan.

“We want to administer the country after the 15th general election,” said Dr Wee during his speech at Barisan’s 48th anniversary celebration at the World Trade Centre (WTC) KL on Wednesday (June 1) afternoon.

Meanwhile, Dr Wee said Barisan must defend its track record in administering the country, adding that achievements are what was lacking in the Pakatan Harapan’s 22 months in Putrajaya.

“We don’t want the people to suffer again due to economic stagnation, heightening racial tensions, the cancellations of people's projects, and unfulfilled promises, among others, during Pakatan’s time,” added the Ayer Hitam MP.

Dr Wee said Barisan was grateful that public support has returned to the coalition, as shown in the Melaka state elections last November and Johor state elections in March, in which Barisan secured two-thirds majorities.

“But, let’s not be complacent and careless with the victories following our defeat in the 14h general election.

“Instead, we must continue working hard for the people, listen to the pulse of the people and give our best service possible,” he said.

Dr Wee also said Barisan’s defeat during GE14 in May 2018 should be a lesson to all.

“Because the power is with the people and it is them who decides who becomes a leader,” added Dr Wee.

Barisan component party leaders are currently delivering speeches at the WTC KL for the 48th Barisan anniversary.

Prior to the Barisan 48th anniversary celebration at WTC, there was a forum involving Barisan leaders and political analysts on the 15th general election.
