PETALING JAYA: Component parties are on standby for the possibility of the general election being called at any time, says Datuk Nicole Wong.
The MCA Youth chief said the spirit among members is high and they are well prepared to face the polls.
"However, we need to study all aspects properly for the best thing to do if the general election is called," she said when met at the sidelines of the Barisan Nasional Convention 2022 at the World Trade Centre KL on Wednesday (June 1).
Asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri's remark that he is not in a r ush to call for a general election so the that the government can tackle the high rates of inflation and cost of living, Wong said that Barisan needs to collect as much feedback from various sectors as possible, including seeking perspectives of industries.
"We also need to listen to the voices of those in Sabah and Sarawak," she added.
Meanwhile, Barisan communications director Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said that he believed that the Prime Minister would have his own considerations and discuss when to call the general election with the party's top five leaders.
"Surely, he will consider what had been agreed by the previous Umno general assembly.
"I am sure the top five leaders will make the best decision.
I also believe that the Prime Minister will put the interests of the country and nation first," he added.
