Covid-19 Watch: 1,845 new cases detected, active infections now at 25,189


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,845 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (May 26), bringing the total number of infections in the country since the pandemic began to 4,499,057.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 1,836 of Thursday's new cases were locally transmitted, while there were nine imported infections.

The portal also said that 1,825 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Thursday.

There are currently 25,189 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, with 95.6%, or 24,089 individuals, observing home quarantine and 17 seeking treatment at quarantine and treatment centres.

Some 1,056 Covid-19 patients, or 4.2% of active cases, have been warded in hospital, with 27 in intensive care units (ICU).

Of the patients still in ICU, 18 require ventilator support while nine are unventilated.

Malaysia's overall ICU utilisation rate stood at 56% on Thursday, with 5.6% used for Covid-19 patients.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were three fatalities due to Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 35,656 since the pandemic began.
