Cops: Brother of dead eight-year-old Ipoh girl also possible abuse victim

IPOH: The younger brother of an eight-year-old girl who died here early on Sunday (May 15) morning is also believed to have been abused by their aunt and uncle.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid (pic) said the six-year-old boy was being treated at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) Ipoh here, with old and new injuries on his body indicating possible abuse.

"There are marks... believed to be a result of being abused by the same suspects who abused the victim's sister until she died,” he said in a statement on Monday (May 16).

On Monday morning, the husband and wife, both 40, who were detained on Sunday after the girl's death, were remanded for seven days to help with investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The remand order on the couple, who are from Jitra, Kedah, was issued by Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah after receiving an application from the police at a Magistrate's Court here.

On Sunday, Comm Mior Faridalathrash was reported as saying that the suspects were arrested following a report on the girl's death by a medical officer at HRPB's Emergency and Trauma Department at 3.14am.

The report concerned a paediatric patient who was brought to HRPB by ambulance and pronounced dead at about 1.45am.

Comm Mior Faridalathrash also said a post-mortem conducted by a pathologist from the hospital's Forensic Department found that the victim died from blunt force trauma.

It is understood that the boy was rescued by the police, acting on information about an abuse case, from a house in Desa Pengkalan Bandaraya here on Sunday night. – Bernama
