Two dead, two hurt following work-related accident in Bintulu

BINTULU: Bintulu police on Tuesday (May 10) confirmed that two employees of a manufacturing plant at Samalaju Industrial Park have died following a work-related accident yesterday.

District police chief Supt Bartholomew Umpit said two other employees, who were also locals, suffered minor injuries in the workplace incident.

"We received a report on the incident at about 9.10pm last night and have taken statements from several witnesses who are also employees of the company.

"At the moment, the case is being classified as sudden death. The cause of the incident is still under investigation,” he said when contacted.

He urged the public not to speculate on the incident and cause unnecessary anxiety among the community in Bintulu.

A video showing two medical personnel covering the body of one of the dead victims with a white sheet that was placed on a stretcher has gone viral on social media since last night. - Bernama
