Covid-19 Watch: 1,372 new cases, says Health Ministry


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,372 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (May 7), says the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry said through data released on its CovidNow portal on Sunday (May 8) that this brings the new total to 4,456,736 cases since the pandemic began.

Of the 1,372, five are imported cases while 1,367 are local.

The CovidNow portal also said that there were 3,610 recoveries on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 23,276.

Of the active cases, 95.1% or 22,146 individuals are undergoing home quarantine, while 19 people, or 0.1% of the active infections are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

Only 4.4% of active cases or 1,074 individuals needed to be hospitalised, with 86 warded in intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country.

Of that number, 46 require ventilator support.
