Teachers opting for early retirement isn't a new problem, says Education Minister


PETALING JAYA: The number of teachers opting to retire early has been consistent since 2017, says Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (pic).

The Education Minister said data the ministry was looking into revealed that despite parties citing reasons such as stress related to online teaching and learning, Covid-19 related stress and workload stress.

"The number of teachers retiring early from 2017 until today isn’t that much different.

"We are digging deeper to understand the reason why teachers are opting to retire early," he said during a breaking fast event with the media on Monday (April 25).

He also said that the ministry would announce the schools management and operation guidelines 4.0 after the Health Ministry’s announcement on further relaxation of the standard operating procedures.
