KLANG: The race for PKR top echelon positions is heating up with more candidates coming forward to contest the various posts in the upcoming party polls.
The recent announcement came from Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George, who would be vying for one of the three elected vice presidents’ posts.
Gunaraj, who was Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari’s special officer for community relations, made the announcement in his speech at the Kota Raja PKR division annual general meeting on Saturday (April 2).
"After obtaining advice as well as views from the PKR president (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), leadership colleagues and grassroots members, I am offering myself as a candidate to carry forth the responsibilities of a party vice-president for the 2022 – 2025 term," said Gunaraj.
He added that given his experience as a party activist and a Selangor assemblyman, he would be bringing with him a new determination to consolidate grassroots strength in preparation of the upcoming general election.
Gunaraj also urged all PKR members to continue bringing the party’s agenda of championing the people’s cause.
"The people are fed-up with the games of the political elite as the people want leaders who work and serve," he said, adding party members must come together and move in unison to ensure the reformasi agenda continues to be the basis of the party’s struggles.
He also said the party had faced many trials and tribulations before but did not collapse even after the betrayal of some leaders.
"We faced the 11th, 12th and 13th general elections stoically.
"We must feel some remorse over what had happened and have a new determination to return the people’s trust," added Gunaraj.
He said the upcoming party elections was the conduit for all members to strengthen the party by filling-up the vacuum created with the departure of some leaders.
Gunaraj said it was also the collective responsibility of all party members to ensure PKR remained intact and supported Anwar’s leadership.
