BANGI: Farming methods at Felda plantations have been enhanced with the use of up-to-date technology to help increase the productivity of farmers, says Felda director-general Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar.
Felda launched the Smart Plantation Management Solution (SPMS) to strengthen the settlers’ plantations management with the assimilation of technology and smart plantation concept.
Amiruddin said SPMS was developed with data collected using unmanned aerial vehicle or drone technology for the smart farming model to realise the concept of precision agriculture or digital farming.
He said this at the SPMS launching ceremony in conjunction with Felda Technology Day (Feltech) 2022 yesterday by Felda board member and its Sustainability Committee chairman Abd Halim Abd Majid, reported Bernama.
Amiruddin said SPMS could help increase productivity and efficiency as well as reduce farm operating costs. SPMS, which is integrated with Felda’s existing geographical information system (e-GIS), can be used for area analysis, tree count, plant health status, vacant point, labour utilisation and also to estimate settlers’ revenue.
Abd Halim said SPMS would change the way Felda worked, with the use of digital technology, mechanisation and agricultural solutions in implementing precision farming.
