No one hurt after kitchen catches fire in Pavilion KL

KUALA LUMPUR: A fire broke out in the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur mall on Wednesday (March 30), with a video of thick smoke billowing from the roof of the building circulating online.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Rozi Jusoh said they received information about the incident at 2.12pm.

"When we arrived at the scene, we found that the smoke had originated from a restaurant kitchen at level one of the shopping complex," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the sprinkler system was activated and managed to put out the flames.

"Our inspection showed that five sprinkler heads were activated due to the fire.

"The owner of the restaurant has informed us that the fire originated from the duck roaster," he said, adding that they dispatched two fire engines and 11 personnel from the Jalan Tun Razak station to the scene.

He added that the City Fire and Rescue Department forensic unit was at the scene to investigate further.

In a statement, Pavilion KL management team also noted that the fire had started at around 2.10pm in a kitchen of one of its restaurants.

"The fire was immediately put out and the incident was promptly reported to the Fire and Rescue Department.

"No one was hurt and the mall remains open for business as usual," said the team in a statement on Wednesday.

The team also said its operation and security department is working closely with the Fire and Rescue Department to determine the cause of the fire.

"Rest assured that Pavilion Kuala Lumpur will continue to take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety and health of our shoppers and tenants," said the team.
