EC spent RM420mil in total on Johor, Sabah, Sarawak and Melaka state polls, Parliament told


PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) spent RM420mil on the four state elections that were held since September 2020, the Dewan Rakyat heard.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the EC spent RM130mil on the Sabah election, RM45mil on Melaka, RM149mil on Sarawak and RM96mil on Johor.

“These costs include acquisition and rental of election equipment, vehicles, ICT development, logistics, staff allowances and related expenses.

“It also takes into consideration the equipment costs according to Covid-19 prevention guidelines,” he said in a written reply on Wednesday (March 22).

Sim Chee Keong (PH-Bukit Mertajam) had asked about the total expenditure for the state elections in Johor, Sabah, Melaka and Sarawak.
