‘Barisan is a trusted household brand’

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has likened Umno to renowned brands such Apple, Mercedes and BMW, saying the party has been trusted for generations.

The Umno president said although many new political parties recently emerged, the people would prefer to support a more established brand with a proven track record.

“Barisan Nasional is all about what we are able to offer to the people – our customers. Companies like Apple and Samsung, or automotive firms like Mercedes and BMW, these are solid brands that are trusted by all due to their long reputation.

“New brands may come up with similar products, but consumers will prefer to choose the more renowned brands. That is how Barisan is in the hearts of the people even though there are newer parties. And the people will return to supporting Barisan,” he said in his presidential address at the Umno general assembly.

Ahmad Zahid, who is Barisan chairman, said it was important for the coalition’s candidates to flaunt and promote its brand to the people.

“Our candidates are accepted by all because the Barisan brand always gives the best service. Our excellence is envied, that some even try to imitate our brand. This is our branding strength that we must always highlight,” he added.

Following Barisan’s defeat in the 14th General Election, Ahmad Zahid said the party underwent a restructuring and rebranding exercise.

“We need to rejuvenate ourselves to become a stronger outfit that can win GE15 and become the government again. It is to suit the aspirations of the rakyat,” he said.
