Penang airport ready to welcome travellers under VTL with Singapore

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang International Airport is all set to welcome flights under the Penang-Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme.

State tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd had conducted the necessary spatial planning at PIA to ensure smooth implementation of the scheme.

“The planning includes designating a dedicated aerobridge and airport apron for passengers to disembark.

“PIA has also established a medical lab for swab test purposes,” he said after visiting the airport in Bayan Lepas on Monday (Feb 28) to check on the progress of VTL preparations.

Yeoh said passengers who test negative upon screening at arrival will be allowed to enter Penang, whereas passengers who test positive will be sent to the special isolation area for further measures.

He said the Penang government remained committed to curb the spread of Covid-19 to ensure that the VTL could aid the state’s economic recovery.
