KUALA LUMPUR: Recognising the important role of micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) in spearheading the country's growth, the government is committed towards the industry's post-pandemic revival, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Prime Minister said the RM40bil SemarakNiaga Keluarga Malaysia programme will increase access to financing for businesses, especially MSME entrepreneurs and the informal sector.

"I recently visited Farm Fresh in Muadzam Shah, where I had the opportunity to interact with small and large entrepreneurs.

"It gave me a clear picture of their role in providing employment opportunities, bridging income gaps and addressing long-term challenges such as food security.

"I believe that the contribution and role of local MSME entrepreneurs throughout the country is very important in reviving the nation's economy.

"Thus, the government is always committed to ensuring that the capacity of the MSME sector is protected, as they are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The SemarakNiaga Keluarga Malaysia Programme is a clear sign of the government's commitment in ensuring that the MSME ecosystem remains competitive," said Ismail Sabri at the programme's launch event here Monday (Feb 21).

The programme consists of direct loans, financing guarantees and equity injections that can benefit many entrepreneur groups.
