Syed Hamid announces he is quitting politics

PETALING JAYA: Veteran politician Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar has announced that he is quitting politics.

"This Friday (Feb 18) I have decided not to get involved or be a member of any political party.

"I will devote my time to legal practice work and non-governmental organisation activities," he said in a tweet.

The 78-year-old is the son of Umno stalwart Syed Jaafar Albar.

Syed Hamid was the Kota Tinggi MP in 1990 and served until 2013.

He had previously served as justice minister, defence minister, foreign minister and home minister and was also chairman of the now-defunct Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
