PETALING JAYA: The death of a suspect in custody in Kuala Kangsar is being investigated by Bukit Aman.
Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Azri Ahmad, in a statement Sunday (Jan 30), said that the incident occurred on Jan 29 at Kampung Temong Hilir in Kuala Kangsar.
"The 38-year-old man, believed to be suffering from mental health issues, ran amok and attacked his father.
"When the police arrived, the man was being restrained by four men, including the suspect's father.
"A scuffle ensued when he was being restrained then and after his arrest, the suspect was brought to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital for treatment.
"However he lost consciousness while en route to the hospital and was pronounced dead by medical officers there," he said.
The case was being investigated as a Sudden Death Report, pending the post mortem report.
The department's Crime Investigation Unit on Death In Custody was currently investigating the matter.
