PETALING JAYA: Civil servants, especially those in Selangor, must act with integrity and avoid corruption as well as abuse of power, says Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
“Civil servants in Selangor must be professional and offer good services to the public while maintaining honesty,” he said after launching former auditor-general Tan Sri Ambrin Buang’s new book From AS to AG: Reminiscence of a PTD Officer yesterday.
PTD is an abbreviation for Pegawai Tadbir dan Diplomatik or Administration and Diplomatic officer.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to advise civil servants who are currently in service and those who are new to emulate Ambrin,” he said.
“Civil servants in the past are known for their high integrity, dedication, honesty and sincerity while carrying out their responsibilities.”
Sultan Sharafuddin also praised Ambrin for his many contributions both in Selangor and at the federal level and as the country’s longest serving auditor-general for 11 years. On the launch of the book, Sultan Sharafuddin hoped more civil servants would come forward to write scholarly books and those pertaining to their experiences in order to cultivate a writing culture.
At the launch, Ambrin said the book was a manifestation of his interest in writing.
He said it took longer than expected to write due to his other commitments.
“I wanted to write and publish this book in one year but I was a main witness in a court case. I was also heading a special investigation committee on procurement, governance and finance. As such, the book got delayed and I only managed to finish it this year,” Ambrin said at the event.
He added that the book traces his journey in civil service spanning over 46 years, starting when he was an assistant secretary in 1971.
Ambrin also noted the support he received from Sultan Sharafuddin to write the book.
The book is a collaboration between Humanology Sdn Bhd and the PTD Alumni.
Present at the launch were Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Tengku Laksamana Selangor Tengku Sulaiman Shah, Tengku Syarif Panglima Perlis Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and alumni president Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali.
