PUTRAJAYA: MCA will hold a Chinese New Year reception – limited to invited guests only – in adherence to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) said that unlike pre-pandemic years where MCA would host an open house, the reception this year would be by invitation only.
“We have to show a good example and strictly follow the SOP. We hope the public will understand this,” he said at a press conference here on Wednesday (Jan 19).
MCA is expected to hold the reception on the first day of Chinese New Year on Feb 1.
Dr Wee said that party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon would make an announcement soon.
The National Unity Ministry has released a list of SOP for the Chinese New Year celebration, which allows receptions to be held, but only for invited guests and the number of attendees should only be up to 50% of the capacity where it will be held.
Open houses are not allowed.
