Former DAP strongman said to be contemplating joining Warisan

GEORGE TOWN: One-time DAP strongman Datuk Danny Law Heng Kiang (pic) is said to be mulling over joining Parti Warisan.

Speculation is rife that the former state exco member in charge of tourism is on the brink of joining the Sabah-based party after 35 years with DAP.

State Warisan coordinator Goh Choon Keong said he had a meeting with Law but so far, nothing was decided yet.

“We have not received any application from him yet,” he said when contacted.

It is learnt that Law was not happy after he was not selected as a candidate during the last general election.

Batu Kawan DAP division secretary P. David Marshel expressed shock over Law’s resignation from the party, adding that he was baffled as to why the resignation came at this time.

“He was a party veteran for more than 30 years. So for him to quit the party suddenly is something that is shocking to us,” he said.

David said they had yet to meet to find out why Law resorted to leaving the party.

He also described Law’s resignation as a “big loss” as he has contributed much to the party’s struggle.

Law is fondly remembered as the “Lone Ranger” when he was the only DAP assemblyman after the general election in 1999.

Separately, state DAP secretary Senator Lim Hui Ying said they received Law’s resignation letter yesterday.

“The state committee respects his decision and thanks him for his services,” she said.

Lim, however, did not disclose the reason for Law’s resignation.

Law was appointed as the state tourism committee chairman in 2008 and kept the position until 2018.

He was Batu Lanchang assemblyman from 1999 to 2004 and again in 2008.

He held the seat until 2018 but was not picked as a candidate to defend the seat.
