Suspect who allegedly murdered his mother was convicted of criminal intimidation in 2014

PETALING JAYA: The man who allegedly murdered his mother on Saturday (Jan 15) had previously been convicted of criminal intimidation and had served prison time for his crime.

According to Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ramli Kasa, investigations revealed the suspect is believed to have been involved in drugs for the past four years.

He also said the suspect had previously been convicted of a crime under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

“The suspect was jailed (under Section 506) in 2014, but there was no record of narcotics,” he said.

He said on the day the gruesome crime was committed, the suspect’s sibling had tried to contact their mother but did not get any response and decided to check on her at the house.

Upon arriving, she saw blood all over the floor and startled the suspect, who ran into the bushes near the victim’s house.

A call was made to the police at 5.45pm on Saturday (Jan 15).

The 28-year old suspect was apprehended about 50m away from the victim’s house with the help of the villagers.

“The suspect was under the influence of drugs and a urine test was positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” Supt Ramli said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 16).

“Police also seized a parang in the bathroom of the house.

“Our investigations revealed that the suspect and victim lived in the same house,” he said.

He said the suspect would be remanded for seven days to assist further investigations.

Supt Ramli said the case has been classified as murder.

A day after the incident, Malay daily Harian Metro reported that family members of the victim declined to talk to the media.

There was only the sound of people reciting the Quran coming from the house, while furniture was laid in the house compound as the family was cleaning the murder scene.

“We are still in shock. Please give us some space to grieve,” said an in-law of the victim to reporters, adding that the victim’s body had been taken to Hospital Sungai Buloh.
