Abu Zahar plans another PC to address board members’ stance

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang will hold another press conference tomorrow over the shares controversy implicating Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The second such press conference within a week will, among others, address the issue of the six members of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board who have distanced themselves from Abu Zahar’s initial statement.

“I will answer and clarify all issues including about the six board members who had taken such a stance as known by the public,” said the advisory board chairman in a brief text message yesterday.

Abu Zahar said the press briefing would be held at 11am at the MACC press room.

On Saturday, six advisory board members distanced themselves from the statement made by Abu Zahar over Azam’s purchase of shares.

They are Tan Sri Ismail Omar, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, Datuk Seri Akhbar Satar, Datuk Dr Hamzah Kassim, Datuk David Chua Kok Te and Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff.

The six board members said they were not satisfied with the explanations given by Azam despite Abu Zahar saying otherwise during the press conference last week.

“He (Abu Zahar) said the board was satisfied with the explanations given by Azam. He further said there was no crime committed or any conflict of interest in the matter.

“We categorically wish to state that the board members at that meeting or at any time thereafter did not express such opinion as he attributed to,” the six said in a joint press statement.

The six added that the comments were Abu Zahar’s personal views and a separate discussion was held on the matter with several proposals given.
