Floods ease in Negri, rescue and recovery on full blast

SEREMBAN: The flood situation in Negri Sembilan has improved slightly with only 329 victims from 89 families still sheltering at five relief centres, says the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.

The five relief centres are SK Ulu Beranang in Seremban, as well as SMK Teriang Hilir, Dewan D’Sury, SK Dato’ Undang Abdullah and the Kampung Puom community hall, all in Jelebu.

The relief centres in Jelebu has 303 victims while the one in Seremban has 26 people.

The authorities continued assisting victims although the floods had receded, with the army delivering aid to some 50 people in Jelebu.

In a statement, the army said two officers and 23 men from the 15th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment were deployed to search for flood victims at the location.

A total of 31 people were brought out while details of 19 others who chose to stay back were handed over to the Jelebu district disaster operations control centre.

The Fire and Rescue Services Department used a helicopter to rescue four individuals trapped at Gunung Telapak Buruk.

A department spokesman said two of the victims were Telekom Malaysia employees while two others were security personnel.

The four had gone up to carry out maintenance works at a Telekom transmission station. They could not get down as their path had been blocked by fallen trees.

“We brought them down to SK Pantai and from there, the four were airlifted back on our Agusta AW189 chopper,” the spokesman said.Meanwhile, Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan (SAINS) said only three of its 21 water treatment plants were not yet running at normal capacity.

A spokesman for the state water concessionaire said the Klawang, Pantai and Lakai plants were still undergoing repair works following the floods on Saturday.
