Two senators appointed at Perak State Assembly


IPOH: Two Dewan Negara senators have been appointed at the Perak State Assembly sitting.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Umno Ipoh Barat division chief Datuk Shamsuddin Abdul Ghaffar were appointed after they received the highest number of votes.

The motion to appoint the senators was made by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (BN-Kota Tampan) during the state assembly sitting here on Monday (Dec 20).

A total of four nominations were made, where Iskandar Dzulkarnain, who is also Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation chairman, was nominated by Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (PN-Chenderiang); Shamsuddin by Saarani; former UTM lecturer Ahmad Termizi Ramli by Datuk Asmuni Awi (PH-Manjoi) and lawyer Nga Hock Cheh by Loh Sze Yee (PH-Jalong).

During the voting, a total of 55 out of 59 assemblyman voted while the remaining four, Datuk Shamsuddin Abu Hassan (BN-Ayer Kuning), Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya (BN-Rungkup), Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim (Inde-Titi Serong) and Muhammad Arafat Varisai Mahamad (PH-Ulu Kinta), were not at the sitting.

Perak Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said out of 55 votes, 54 were accepted and one vote was rejected.

“Iskandar Dzulkarnain received 34 votes, Shamsuddin with 32 votes, Nga with 22 votes and Ahmad Termizi with 20 votes,” he said.
