KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has detected 181 Covid-19 cases among flood victims nationwide so far and there could be a hike in numbers due to the flood situation, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Health Minister said that as of 11am Monday, the ministry had conducted screenings at various flood relief centres nationwide to detect Covid-19 cases.

From the total, six cases are in Kelantan, 52 in Pahang, 117 in Selangor, one in Negri Sembilan, one in Melaka and four in Kuala Lumpur.

However, most of the cases are in category 1 and 2.

The Health Ministry also found 206 individuals who had been identified as close contacts.

Those affected had been transferred immediately to hospitals, Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) or selected health facilities.

"The Health Ministry expects that due to this flood disaster, there may be an increase in cases, due to the evacuation situation that had to be done in a very high risk situation where some public health measures could not be fully implemented," said Khairy.
