A MAN whose left leg had swelled to almost 50kg due to a medical condition known as elephantiasis spoke of his wish to get better so that he can have a family of his own one day. Kosmo reported the sad tale of Mohd Safuan Ishak, 32, in an article titled “I would want to get married, and have children”.
Mohd Safuan, who lives in Balik Pulau, Penang, has been afflicted with what is known as “penyakit kaki gajah” for the past 15 years.
He needs a cane to help him walk as his left leg has swelled to several times its normal size.
“I have always wanted to have a wife and children but that may only remain a dream as my condition has been worsening.
“I hope my health will improve so that I will also be able to earn a permanent income,” he said.
Mohd Safuan, who helps out at a burger stall, said he relied on his family and friends to take him for treatment at the Penang Hospital.
“Doctors have also told me there is no specific treatment to remove the fluid from my leg and that the swelling may even worsen,” he said.
> Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth for impersonating an army officer in Alor Gajah, Melaka, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the suspect was being probed for cheating a man by claiming to be one “Mejar Shuhada” and “Kaptain Saufi”.
Apart from the cheating case, he was also being investigated for allegedly sodomising a man at a house in Taman Ayer Molek Perdana in Kuala Sungai Baru between Nov 23 and 25.
