Suspect who snatched victim's handbag after vehicle collision arrested after reporting accident

SHAH ALAM: A man who snatched the handbag from the vehicle of a woman after a collision between their vehicles at KM14.6 of the Federal Highway has been detained.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib said the man was detained to assist investigations after he lodged a report on the accident at the police headquarters here at about 6.30pm on Saturday (Nov 27).

"Investigations showed that the accident, footage of which went viral on social media, occurred at 1.33pm on Saturday involving three vehicles."

He said the woman, who was driving a luxury car, hit the suspect's car from behind.

The impact of the collision caused the suspect's car to hit another vehicle in front.

"No one was injured during the accident and we are investigating under Rule 10 LN 166/59," he said in a statement on Saturday night.

ACP Baharudin said police are also investigating the man's actions under Section 379/323 of the Penal Code.

"We urge witnesses or those who have information on the accident to contact Shah Alam Traffic Investigation and Enforcement division's assistant investigating officer Sjn Hafizi Hashim at 013-955 7042.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media, where the man is seen asking for the woman's MyKad before he grabs the woman's handbag from her car.

The woman also claimed that the man assaulted her.
