Brawl among friends leaves one dead after neck slashed with key

JOHOR BARU: A brawl among three friends leaves one dead after his neck was slashed with a key.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the 34-year-old victim, a self-employed man, and two others were at a hotel in Johor Baru when the incident happened at around 9.30pm on Saturday (Nov 27).

“It all started with a fight, which led one of the two men to slash the victim’s neck with a key.

“After that, the two men went to the Setia Indah police station to lodge a police report, claiming that they had been beaten.

“Further questioning linked them to the victim’s death and both men were arrested on the spot,” he said on Sunday (Nov 28).

Comm Ayob said upon arrest, the suspects, aged 23 and 31 years old, admitted to their actions as well.

“The suspects were customers of the hotel and the motive of the murder is still being investigated,” he said, adding that the case was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a death sentence if convicted.

Both suspects also possessed previous criminal records and were remanded for seven and five days, respectively, from Nov 28 for further investigations.
