Over RM134,000 worth of drugs seized following arrest of three in Bukit Mertajam

GEORGE TOWN: Police here have seized drugs worth RM134,800 and arrested three suspects.

Penang Narcotics Crime Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said most of the drugs were found stored in a flat in Bukit Mertajam after interrogating the suspects aged between 38 and 47 on Tuesday ( Nov 23).

"The first arrest was made in Permatang Pauh where two male suspects were detained," said ACP Mustafa Kamal.

"We seized 10 packets of heroin weighing 171.35g worth RM2,296 and nine packets of methamphetamine weighing 13.25g worth RM1,325 as well as nine Erimin 5 pills weighing 2.42g worth RM135," he added.

ACP Mustafa Kamal said the suspects then led police to Bukit Tengah where another male suspect was detained and a packet of heroin weighing 457g worth RM6,124 was seized.

"Further investigations then led police to raid a rented flat unit in Bukit Mertajam where nine packets of heroin weighing 4.12kg worth RM55,275 and two slabs of heroin base weighing 750g worth RM69,645 were found stored," he said.

"We believe the heroin base, heroin and methamphetamine were headed for the local market and the syndicate has been active since June," added ACP Mustafa Kamal.

He said at a press conference at the state contingent police headquarters in Penang Road on Saturday (Nov 27) that the drugs seized would have been enough for 68,842 addicts.

ACP Mustafa Kamal said two suspects were remanded for seven days until Nov 30 while another was remanded for six days until Nov 29.

"Urine tests on all suspects tested positive for drugs and checks revealed that they possessed multiple past criminal records. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he said.
