Motorcyclist rams police vehicle during chase, cops say he had prior drug offences


AMPANG: A motorcyclist suffered several injuries after he was involved in an accident in the midst of a high speed chase with the police near Kampung Pasir here.

The rider had rammed his motorcycle into a police patrol vehicle during the chase which occurred at about 11.40pm on Friday (Nov 26).

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police patrol personnel were making their rounds in Taman Melawati when they stumbled upon the motorcyclist, who was acting suspiciously.

"When told to stop, the motorcyclist sped away and the police patrol unit gave chase," he said when contacted on Saturday (Nov 27).

The motorcyclist had ridden dangerously in a zig-zag pattern for 500m before he suddenly made a U-turn and rammed into the patrol vehicle, he added.

"The motorcyclist suffered injuries to his face and head. He was sent to Hospital Ampang for treatment.

"Initial investigation revealed that the suspect has three prior records for drug-related offences," he said.
