Covid-19: Primary pupils to undergo weekly tests every Wednesday on schooling days

PETALING JAYA: The weekly Covid-19 tests for primary school pupils will be conducted every Wednesday on schooling days, says the Education Ministry.

The ministry said it will issue letters to inform about the implementation of the weekly tests, which will see pupils taking turns to get tested.

“We also urge that this practice be applied in all private primary school institutions that are registered under the ministry,” it said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 27).

The ministry was referring to an announcement by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin that primary school pupils must undergo weekly Covid-19 tests from next week.

He said this was part of the new National Testing Strategy, which has just been published by his ministry.

The tests need to be conducted on at least 10% of the student population in the school.

The pupils will take turns getting tested each week.

The Education Ministry said it lauded the announcement, and will carry out the routine testing.

“We have supplied Covid-19 self-test kits to primary schools under the ministry to ensure screening efforts can be done in line with the Guidelines for School Management and Operation 3.0,” it said, adding that the ministry is always committed to doing its best in all situations.
