PETALING JAYA: Local bread producer Gardenia Bakeries (KL) will be revising the prices of most of its products from Dec 1.
In a letter addressed to its retailers, Gardenia Bakeries said the significant increase in production costs and materials were beyond their control and had put the company in a difficult position with no choice but to revise prices.
Gardenia Bakeries said they were very affected by the challenges during the pandemic and tried its best to absorb the increase in raw material prices over the years but the recent significant increase presented a different challenge.
It cited raw materials such as flour, whole wheat flour, vegetable fat, cocoa powder, milk and packaging had gone up in price.
"The price revision involves products in certain circumstances, which have maintained the same price for many years, including the Gardenia Original Classic bread range.
"Other revised product prices also include the Gardenia Delicia range, buns, cream bread, muffins, Gardenia Twiggies, waffles and Gardenia NuMee," read the statement.
"Gardenia KL will continue to focus on intensifying our efforts to optimise productivity and efficiency in our factories.
A letter from the company to their retailers went viral on social media on Thursday (Nov 25), informing about the price increase starting Dec 1 this year.
Based on the list, a total of 38 products are listed and will be sold at new prices starting Dec 1.
Among the new prices are RM2.80 for a loaf of Gardenia Original Classic 400g; Gardenia Original Classic Jumbo 600g (RM4), Gardenia Bran & WheatGerm 400g loaf (RM2.90), amongst others.
Gardenia Bakeries is not the only food supplier to have revised or increased its prices, with vegetable farmers also announcing an increase in vegetable prices recently.
