MELAKA: MCA will repay the kindness of voters who supported the party’s candidates in the Melaka polls, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president along with other Barisan Nasional leaders were elated after victory was announced at its operation centre in Ayer Keroh here.

‘’We are happy for the wins. We will repay the kindness of voters who voted for MCA in the polls.

“MCA’s success in regaining two seats from Pakatan Harapan is a proud achievement for the party.

“Hopefully this momentum continuous and we will increase our efforts,” he said in a Facebook post.

Dr Wee also said Barisan’s resounding win in Melaka was proof voters had rejected Pakatan for its failure in governing after the 14th General Election (GE14).

“Congratulations to all Barisan candidates for the huge win of 21 out of 28 seats, and receiving the mandate from the people to govern Melaka.

“Our highest appreciation goes to all Melaka voters for trusting Barisan to provide stability and prosperity.

“Barisan will promise to deliver its manifesto pledges for the benefit of the people and the state of Melaka,” he added.

In Kelebang, MCA’s Datuk Lim Ban Hong won the seat with a majority of 876, defeating incumbent Datuk Gue Teck of Pakatan and Bakri Jamaluddin of Perikatan Nasional.

In Machap Jaya, MCA’s Ngwe Hee Sem won with a majority of 938 votes in a five-cornered fight.

In GE14, Pakatan had won the seat through PKR’s Ginie Lim.

Dr Wee also thanked the Barisan election machinery for its relentless work and dedication.

He also expressed appreciation to Election Commission workers, the police, medical teams and all involved in ensuring the smooth running of the Melaka election.

Party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon also thanked Melaka voters for their mandate.

‘’In this state election, MCA contested in seven seats and won two in Kelebang and Machap Jaya.

‘’This is a victory for us compared with the last general election in 2018. This shows that MCA’s continued service on the ground finally bore fruit.

‘’Barisan-MCA sincerely thank all voters for their trust and guarantee that their choice of candidates will start working right away,’’ Chong added.

He said MCA also promised to give its best in servicing the people and bringing their voice to the state legislative assembly.

‘’We will fulfil all promises made in the manifesto, safeguard the interests and rights of the people, improve the people’s well-being, introduce development and progress to the community and the entire state of Melaka,’’ he said.

Chong said MCA candidates who did not win would continue to work for the interest of locals.

‘’We will continue with our struggle in politics and community work for all walks of life, regardless of race or religion,’’ he said.
