Cops nab 18 for various traffic offences in three-day operation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested a man for driving a luxury car with a fake road tax disc while a motorcyclist was arrested for riding with a fake licence plate.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the two were among 18 detained for various offences during a weekend traffic operation from Nov 5 to 7 involving 10 officers and 89 personnel.

"The operations focussed on areas around the city centre - Jalan Pahang, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Kuching and the Duke Highway.

"On Nov 5, we arrested a 23-year-old suspect for driving a luxury vehicle near Jalan Walter Granier while we also arrested a 21-year-old motorcyclist along Jalan Raja Laut the following day.

"Investigations revealed the driver had displayed a fake road tax disc while the motorcycle had a fake licence plate," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 7).

He said they also arrested 12 men, aged from 22 to 54 years old, for driving under the influence of alcohol, adding that all those arrested had been brought to the City Traffic Police Station for further action.

Meanwhile, ACP Sarifudin said police managed to arrest four men for street racing along the Duke Highway.

"The suspects rode their motorcycles dangerously and performed various manouvres including superman, zig-zagging and rocket.

"The four, aged between 19 and 21, will be charged with reckless and careless riding under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act," he said, adding that police issued 371 compound notices and seized 10 motorcycles during the operations.
