No fear or favour in probe of corruption expose by Edisi_SiasatMY, says Wan Junaidi

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will be impartial in investigating an expose of abuse of power among high-ranking government officers made by Edisi_SiasatMY on Twitter, says Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the government was still studying all the claims, which had gone viral recently.

"I would like to stress here that the government will investigate any individuals, regardless of their position – whether they are heads of department or top-ranking officers," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah) during Question Time in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 3).

Cha had asked the government's position on the expose by Edisi_SiasatMY involving the alleged abuse of power by prominent figures and top government officers.

Wan Junaidi said a proper investigation would be conducted with no double standards.

"Actually the government is still scrutinising the matter.

"In terms of the investigation, we cannot reveal it to the public until the probe is completed," he said.

To the initial question, he said a total of 550 recommendations were made in the 2019 Auditor-General's Report Series 2.

"A total of 525 recommendations have been categorised as corrective issues and will be followed through in the Auditor-General's Dashboard.

"The other 25 issues have been categorised as punitive issues," he said, adding that they had been discussed in meetings between enforcement agencies as recently as Oct 20.

"Based on the meetings, a total of seven issues have been (marked) for further investigation by enforcement agencies including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police and the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM)," he said.

"We hope the punitive and corrective measures as well as steps taken by the ministries and government agencies will reduce the wastage and leakage of public funds," he added.
