Covid-19: 5,726 new cases bring total to 2,442,224


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 5,726 new Covid-19 cases, the Health Ministry reported on Tuesday (Oct 26).

In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of that total, 98.3% (5,629 cases) of them are mild and asymptomatic infections.

“Another 97 cases or 1.7% are category 3, 4 and 5 infections,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There are 15 imported cases, involving nine Malaysians and six foreigners.

Cumulatively, Malaysia has 2,442,224 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 5,607 people discharged from treatment in the same 24-hour span.

Total recoveries are now 2,340,390, or a recovery rate of 95.8% out of all cases.

There are 598 patients in intensive care units (ICU), of which 512 are confirmed Covid-19 cases while the others are suspected infections.

Some 308 patients in the country are on ventilator support.

The Health Ministry also identified seven new infection clusters in the country.

These include five workplace outbreaks found in Johor (two clusters), Kedah, Melaka and Perak.

There is one community cluster in Sabah and one outbreak at a higher learning institute in Negri Sembilan.

To date, there are 506 active clusters nationwide.
