Election of new Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker postponed


KUALA LUMPUR: The election of a new Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker has been postponed to the next Parliamentary meeting, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (pic).

The election of the new Deputy Speaker was supposed to take place on Monday (Oct 25).

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar tabled a motion to postpone the election immediately after the Question Time session.

The post became vacant on Aug 23 after Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman stepped down.

Cameron Highlands MP Datuk Ramli Mohd Noor has been picked by Umno as its candidate.

Besides Ramli, Teluk Intan MP Nga Kor Ming has also been proposed for the position.

Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon is the other Deputy Speaker.
