Customs detainee found dead in lockup

KOTA KINABALU: A Tawau Customs Department detainee has been found hanged in the department’s lockup on Thursday (Oct 14).

Tawau district police chief ACP Peter anak Umbuas, in a statement, said the report of the incident was received at 3.34pm Thursday (Oct 14).

The 42-year-old deceased was an unemployed local man, he added.

"The detainee was found hanged in the department's lockup at the Tawau branch.

"His body was discovered at 2.40pm," Peter said in the statement, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
