Penang hotels ready for tourists


GEORGE TOWN: They are coming! Having been cooped up for so long, Penang is expected to be swarmed by holidaymakers this “super weekend” with several prominent hotels expecting high occupancy rates.

With next Tuesday being a public holiday, many would probably take leave on Monday to extend their staycation here.

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa communications director Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman said the hotel has been 50% booked for the coming weekend, while its sister property Golden Sands Resort is more than 90% occupied.

“After the announcement that interstate travels were allowed, we are getting more bookings for the coming weekend. In fact, we had the best occupancy rate last weekend. We foresee the booking rate to double this weekend as many will be having a long weekend,” he said.

Malaysian Association of Hotels Penang Chapter chairman K. Raj Kumar said most hotels were ready to open, adding that he foresees hotel occupancy rates to increase.
