PETALING JAYA: The cabotage policy was among the topics discussed between Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and newly appointed Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDEC) chief executive officer Mahadhir Aziz.

During his visit at the Transport Ministry on Monday (Oct 11), Mahadhir explained the function and role of MDEC in developing the country’s digital economy.

"In addition, we also discussed various topics such as the Digital Free Trade Zone project in Sepang; cabotage policy for installation and repair of submarine cables; digital sovereignty and efforts to help small and medium enterprises to venture into the digital economy.

"The Transport Ministry and MDEC have always worked closely in advancing the digital economy development agenda.

"The ministry is committed to continuing its support for MDEC to help all segments of the society," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Monday (Oct 11).

He also expressed hopes for the close relationship between the ministry and MDEC to be continued for the sake of mutual prosperity and to preserve the sovereignty of the country.
